Hot air balloon flight

As you can only control the altitude during a hot air balloon flight, the route depends completely on the direction of the wind. For this reason the weather forecast has a very important role. But most flights start in the centre of the island. The best time is early in the morning or in the late afternoon.
If you are interested you can already join during the set up of the balloon and help the crew. First all the fabric has to be laid down on the ground, so that a strong blower can inflate the balloon with hot air. Little by little the balloon lifts up. At this time the balloon is still connected to the ground with a rope. Next, the participants get into the basket. Then the captain gives the start signal and the balloon gets disconnected from the rope. Immediately the balloon lifts up, higher and higher. A support vehicle accompanies the hot air balloon flight and stays in radio contact with the crew. This way we can coordinate the landing spot and the bus to pick you up again after the balloon has landed. Even though by law and tradition we are allowed to land everywhere, the support vehicle helps to inform neighbours living close to the landing spot. However the arrival of a hot air balloon is always a great thing and so you are always welcome. After the landing, the traditional christening with sparkling wine takes place.
The duration of hot air balloon flight is between 3 – 4 hours, flight time is one hour.
